The Indonesian government has made a concerted effort to move the traditionally nomadic Bajau into settled communities on land. In Torosiaje, many Bajau left their government-provided homes and built this stilt village 1km out to sea. Basic amenities are scarce however, and the poorest claim that government promises of help have been hollow, leading them to return to the old nomadic way of life at sea. Sulawesi, Indonesia.
